What\'s between oil sender and block?

On my 81 CJ, between the oil sending unit and the engine block, there is a 90 degree fitting which has a two wire connector attached. When I unplug the connection, there is no change in the gauge reading or the RMP. I'm thinking of going to a mechanical gauge or at least removing that fitting, since older jeeps dont even have it. Ideas?

I'm on here so much, I have carpal tunnel reader syndrone.

Re: What\'s between oil sender and block?

I believe what you see is the device that sends votlage to the choke. When you have oil pressure it sends voltage from that device to the coil on your choke. One wire is the hot one and the other wire should go to the choke coil.

Thanks. I'll try to chase the wire, just for the heck of it. Since I have a manual choke, pitching that switch should be no problem.

You can use that switch to pull in the solenoid that goes to your new dual battery setup.

Dave is always thinking.
I just wonder. I wonder if a messed up switch could cause my oil pressure to give screwy readings. It could'nt be the high mileage on my old 258.

Re: What\'s between oil sender and block?

That switch is totally separate from your oil pressure sender, besides conecting to your block in nearly the same spot. It shouldn't bother your oil sender.

Re: What\'s between oil sender and block?

That's the oil pressure switch that powers the automatic choke. It also energizes electric intake preheater if you've got a heated intake.

Re: What\'s between oil sender and block?

Have you ever ran your motor low on oil ? It stalls right ? This switch cuts the ignition when oil pressure drops to like 5 PSI .
