Does any one running the in frame Hedders run a body lift? I wonder if that would help you with the clearance.

Re: Exhaust options for a 360 in a CJ-7

Not a CJ, but....I just installed a 304/TH400/D20 in the Mossy. One side has the down tube between the last cylinders (I believe the drivers side) and the other is extreme rear dump. I figured the pass side was to clear the starter(?). I have a bud with the exact same setup running duals that jump outside the rails behind the front spring hangers (not enough clearance on the pass side at transfer). I'll be running a cheesed single as I have a brand new Y pipe from a donor.

I have a 79 360 with stock manifolds in my CJ 5 and run the pipes down and straight back past the transfer case and out the sides just after the rear tires. no Y's two mufflers, one on each side of the rear driveshaft...the neaerest my pipes get to anything is 3/4" to the frame on the right side...clutch linkage is not a problem...

Re: Exhaust options for a 360 in a CJ-7

I run dual exhaust all the way out the back. Originally had a manual and got the 727 running tonite same exhaust and still no problems. I think they are the rear dump manifolds (didn't even realize there were two kinds). They are stock 360 maniflods from a '79 Waggie. Hope that helped. I run a 3.5" spring lift and 1" body lift. AMC 360, TF727, dana 300.

Jeepsternaut,
Sicne you have the stock manifolds, where do they dump? any chance you have a picture of what the stock manifolds look like? Your setup sounds like where I need to go.

Re: Exhaust options for a 360 in a CJ-7

Befeller...sorry for long delay, just got back from week in San Diego. Here are some pics. Hope this helps. The only thing I dont like about this setup is the two mufflers in back...wish I had the room on the passenger side to put my air tank. My system is ready to go but I cant find a good place to put the air tank...

another, of passenger side...harder to see because of light, but it is rear dump.

Re: Exhaust options for a 360 in a CJ-7

I agree with canis, I also have Headman Headers on my 83 CJ w/ 304. The driverside had to be modified to fit around the steering linkage, and the passenger side header vibrates up against the frame when idling.. They may be "the best for the $$$", but swapping them out will be one of my next projects.. Infact, if anyone can answer this with some headers that don't require as much room, please let me know..
