Electric fan donor??

Question for you guys running electric fans: What kind of car has a fan big enough to cool a 258? My first thought was a Mustang, since some of them cool a V6 or V8 with an electric fan. Is there a better choice? Perhaps something with a shroud that is about the size of the jeep radiator? My CJ's missing the fan shroud, which is the main reason I'm going to an electric fan. I plan on upgrading the alternator and installing dual batteries, so current draw isn't a big issue.
Thanks

Re: Electric fan donor??

CJDave is using a set from a Ford Taurus to cool his Sno-Jeep. Noisy and hi amp draw were the only issues I heard. They seem to fit well. If he doesent respond to this post, shoot him an e-mail.

Re: Electric fan donor??

My plans include using two AC fans from 90's vintage Caravans. Cheap, powerful and thanks to the infamous Caravan automatic transmission... there are plenty of them out there.

Re: Electric fan donor??

LEVE take a look at the Dyansty's too. They have a dual fan setup and share the same tranny as the caravans, so there are plenty of them too.
92 up Taurus's have a nice big fan that draws plenty of air and the 3.8 ones have a slimmer motor too.
My favorite ones are on the 94 up camaro/firebirds. It's a dual one and they really move a lot of air. Drawback to these are cost and man are they hard to find.
I'll also say I have never measured any of these so I can't really say how well they'd fit in a jeep.

Re: Electric fan donor??

The measurements I have taken from my CJ5 are 26" x 16" x 5". This allows some overhang for mounting.

The camaro fans are larger than this and would need to be cut down some, but they are available on e-bay right now.

I'll have to look into the Caravan and dynasty fans.

Re: Electric fan donor??

I know 5.9s have electric fans, and my friend has a spare one, anyone know if it will work in my Scrambler with the 258?

I just checked and the fans are from a '98 Ford SVT Contour. Fans, wiring, relays and thermostats.
