how much current does a starter draw during crank?
 
if i can get my jeep to work the way its supposed to...i may just rig it up with a HUGE relay to jump start the Starter for me from the inside.....

so....what type of current would a starter draw, 30A, 100A...what am i looking at here.

probably a few hundred amps.

look at the size of the cable going to the starter!

the solenoid is a big ass relay

how much current your starter draws depends on a lot of things, including, but not limited to:

Engine compression
Starter age and wear
Proper cable installation
Proper cable size
Temperature
Battery strength

The list goes on.....

Distance from starter to batteries
Type of starter used....direct or gear reduction
Type of WINDING in the starter
Voltage of cranking system....6,12,24,36

Hey![img]/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif[/img] you can use an AIR STARTER! That's what some trucks and industrial applications have. Just substitute an air tank for the back seat, and install an air starter off a Cat diesel and you'll be set![img]/wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif[/img]
