How to bend D300 Shifter

After clocking my D300 to clear my 700r4, I need to bend the shifter.

Can this be accomplished with a MAP torch (it is all I got, besides a MIG welder)? If so how long would it take to get it hot enough?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

if its red hot it bends like butter ( obviously) I dont think you can get it that hot.

maybe clamp it in a vise, and try using a larege pipe over the end to be bent?

Re: How to bend D300 Shifter

I've bent (many times) my currie twinstick with a Map/Oxy (uses throw away oxygen tanks) setup that you can buy at just about any decent hardware store...but its not good for much else. I doubt that you'll get the shifter hot enough with just map gas. It needs to be pretty much cherry red to be malleable(sp?). Finding a someone with a real torch would be the best bet. You could cut and weld too...but bending would probably be the best bet.

Re: How to bend D300 Shifter

After indexing my 300 the shifter was not only at a bad angle but it also would have stuck up too far for my tastes. I sectioned about 3 or 4 inches out of it. Then I pencil ground both ends and welded it up. No problems yet, can't imagine I'll have any either.
