headlight dimmer switch

I have a 91 wrangler with a 2.5L engine. When the headlight dimmer switch is activated (turn the bright lights on) the headlights go off, if you toggle it back they come back on again. Any ideas where to start?

Re: headlight dimmer switch

no idea to your question, 'cause i have the same problem in my jeep as well. i just installed a painless wiring kit in an 84cj7 and sometimes the headlights dont work. i hit the high beams and they come on, i hit the switch again and the lows work again. weird, its only occasional. good luck.

Re: headlight dimmer switch

I had the same problem on a Nissan Pathfinder that I used to own. What it ended up being was the contact points in the switch itself. On the Pathfinder, the switch was inside of the plastic shrouding around the steering column. I replaced this switch and the problem was solved... Hope this helps.. Bret

I also had this problem on my CJ. Replacing the dimmer switch fixed it.

Re: headlight dimmer switch

Dimmer switch was it for my CJ as well (first part I bought for my Jeep). This may sound dumb...oh well I'll say it anyways, the hi-beam filliments on both headlights aren't burned out are they? Just a shot.

Re: headlight dimmer switch

Sounds like the pesky dimmer switch. It's cheap so start with it.
