What The Hell Is Going On ARGG!!!

Ok

As most of you know i have an 89 YJ with the 2.5L that has been running rich. I have had no luck diagnosing it so i broke down and brought it to the dealer and the told me it was the ISA (Idle Speed Acuator) per there computer codes, etc...

Well, i replace that $130 part (after i pay their $70 diagnosis fee) and it does idle and run much better but it is still blowing smoke. Throttle seems much more repsonsive now.

I went through and checked all vacuum lines and found 2 cracked so i replaced them and 2 others that had some wear. Still blowing black smoke and stinks!

I have a spare engine so i started swapping over sensors and when i replaced the MAP sensor it ran MUCH better but then after 30 mins of driving it started doing the same thing!! Argg. I replaced a few more sensors with no luck.

It runs Awesome when its cool but after about 15 mins of driving and when it finally warms up it seems to be getting too much fuel and starts to bog and blow black smoke.

I replaced the plugs with new ones (old ones were BLACK) and that didnt help much. Air filter is new. The timing is NOT adjustable on this and i am pretty much out of ideas!

Anyone know of anything i might have missed or any ideas??? I cant afford to spend another $70 at the dealer for them to tell me what MIGHT be wrong!

Thanks

Re: What The Hell Is Going On ARGG!!!

Coil cracked or worn out internally. Have you replaced it?

I have had coils that exhibited similar traits, when they're cool they make all their contacts fine, when they heat up they expand slightly and loose some of their power, causing a rich running system because it isn't delivering enough punch. The coil will still appear to work fine though.

I had motorcycles that used to do this, not a jeep or other 4 legged vehicle, but I don't see what it shouldn't be able to do the same.

Just a thought.

How is it? If that doesn't work maybe you should try a TJ.

**** Nothing had changed and it still runs like crap (getting too much fuel). I am thinking maybe the fuel pressure regulator? How do i test that???

Re: What The Hell Is Going On ARGG!!!

Have you checked the EGR valve if it has one?

The following is OT ...dorfs????

While I'm at it ....does anyone know how MITSUBISHI gets away w/o using EGR valves on their 3.0 V6? Combustion is combustion and if you go over 1400 deg. (or is it 1800?) you produce NOX. IT doesn't matter whether it's a passenger car engine or a 1500 hp boiler running on #5 low sulpher...it produces NOX and all (including newer boilers) use exhaust gas recirculation (or flue gas recirculation).

Now that I've quit smoking my doctor informs me that I'll die in much better health!!!
