OT, kinda. Recently Banned Music?

I've come across a couple of references in the last few days that certin songs are no longer allowed on the radio. Aparrently due to the attacks on NYC and Washington DC. Songs such as Imagine by John Lennon and Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel. As well as songs like Stairway To Heaven by Led Zepplin. Any truth to this? I can't find anything about it on the net. But I again heard mention of it tonite on Bill Mahrs show. Anyone have the list of song I am refering too? Sorry for posting off topic but I'm out of places to look. I guess it kinda ties into the recent post about Jeepin music though.

I heard something about it at therapy on wednesday. I believe it is "ClearChannel Communications" list that you are referring to. Their a radio monopoly that owns some 1100 stations across the US, covering every genre there is.

Did a search with Yahoo using the words "clear channel communications list" and got several results. One specific response from the results sez that it's only a rumor and that they never issued a list of music to be avoided. Please post if you find something different, I'd be interested. I had heard something similar about certain songs that were deemed too sensitive or emotionally stirring to be aired currently.

It was Clear Channel Communications. The Cincinnati enquire just ran a article on this subject. What they reported was if I remember correctly was that it was not a ban but a suggestion. Most of the decisions were left up to the individual stations. Bottom line is they are just trying to be sensitive to the feelings of all that were affected. You can find the article by going to Cincinnati.com and linking to the Enquire. Hope this helps.

Re: OT, kinda. Recently Banned Music?

I couple of our local DJ's, on a non CCC station, were discussing how they were taking a look at the playlist to ensure they showed respect for the recent events. One of the DJ's said she got a piece of hate mail for something she had already said. That was really weird, because she is the more sensible one, the other half of the radio team is the real arsehole.

Heck, last weekend, the local fair was playing "A New York Minute".

It seemed oddly out-of-place.

For all you Napster and Bearshare types, there is a remix of "In a New York Minute" with WTC sound bites added. Its pretty good. I haven't heard it on the radio so I had to "share" it.

And while your at it, ban anything by Liberachi, Slim Whitman, all rap groups, and anything from the 70's
