D44 front, can\'t get axle shaft out

I am trying to take apart this Waggy D44 front that I bought. I take the locking hub ends off (Warn hubs) and the spring and an engaging hub part comes out. Then I take off the snap ring that goes aroung the stub shaft. At this point there is one more piece of the hub that I cannot slide off of the stub shaft.

What am I missing here? Why won't this last piece of the locking hub slide off? What should I do?

thank you,

There is the inner snap ring, and the outer retaining ring.

It sounds like the outer retaining ring is still in the hub. It is a sturdy metal piece like a wire that slips into a recess along the inside of the hub. To get it out, use a very small screw driver or knife blade to spring it out. It is not quite a full circle.
