Torx bolts of diff cover? can I change them out?

Who thought of that one? I am guessing that they are those pesky torx bolts for my amc 20 rear in my cj-7. I guess that I will have to go out and get a set.(i guess I would have eventualy).
Well they are kinda rusted in there, and I don't know if all will be saved when removing them, what is the standard bolt size to replace them with?
thanks

I believe that they are 1/2" hex heads. Make sure you put lock-washers onto the replacements so you don't gunk up your cover.

On mine, when I took the originals out, I found that you can easily get a set of small vice-grips onto the torx bolts to break them loose. Also another suggestion, get a set of impact torx bits that will fin onto a 3/8ths ratchet handle, not those stupid allen-wrench style ones.

Re: Torx bolts of diff cover? can I change them out?

first, clean off your diff so you can see what you are doing. a self-serve car wash works well. most of the bolt holes were drilled through the casting, meaning you can spray the back side of the bolt with penetrant. do this daily for about a week with a good penetrant (i use PB Blaster). when you are ready to remove the bolts, get a torch and heat up the head of each bolt. a propane torch will work fine, you'll just need to heat it longer. wait until its good and hot, but doesn't need to be red. now, while its hot, try and back it out. i think the bolt size is 5/16" x 3/4", coarse thread. i'd get hex head grade 8 and put antisieze on them before installing. hope this helps! matt
