Will it fit?

I'm wanting to lock up my rear end. Currently I have the stock AMC 20 w/ traclok but it doesn't work anymore. I can't weld it up like a normal differential can I. If its possible I wouldn't mind doin that to save some money. But if its impossible is there another way to do it without buyin a locker. If not, will the Lockright or EZ locker fit with the traclok differential case. I noticed that the Lockright says that it will not work with the traclok and you have to pay a couple hundred more for the NOslip. Screw that. Any help or recommendations would be helpful. Thanks.

Re: Will it fit?

If you lock a 20, you'll be replacing the two piece axles very soon after.

If you want to weld it, you'll need an open carrier with spyder gears.

If you want to lockrite it, you'll need an open carrier.

Or you can just rebuild the traclock.

Re: Will it fit?

Use a spool and get rid of the weak carrier . Plus it cost half as much as the joker lockers you mentioned ( minus the Detroit of course ) . You will have nothing but problems with anything but a Detroit locker . Look on the internet for ANYONE that has broken a Detroit . Good luck . Then look for a broke No-slip , lock rite . I learned the hard way , tried to save a few bucks and actually spent a LOT more replacing those joker parts for a real locker . Lockrites last about a year , with a V-8 and 39.5 inch tall Boggers one throttle stab . Drivetrain strength does not come cheap .

Re: Will it fit?

I saw an article in one of the magazines where they welded up a limited slip. They pointed out that it would be a little different than an open diff because of the clutch packs. They took some square bar stock and welded it to the gears and the carrier. Seems like it was four wheel and off-road in a chrysler 9-1/4" rear in a ramcharger.
