LEVE,
Check Ebay. There was a 62 Mog that is Ex-Swiss military. They wanted around $3000 - 5000 i believe. It was located in Arizona. Do a search. There was another one that was great, but $$$.

Re: UniMog Group Buy

I'd love to have one of those babies. I think we'd need to buy gas as a group too A lot of the one they ship over have gas engines, I think mostly because of fuel prices in europe. The diesels are quite a bit more expensive. I have found a couple of places that bring them to the US and sell them for pretty reasonable prices (more than $3-4k though). I will see if I still have the links.

Re: UniMog Group Buy

LEVE, be careful if you decide to do this. Another board I frequent decided to do the same thing and acquired the services of a dealer who agreed to go to inspect then and arrange shipping to the US. He took deposits and went to the dealer in Europe, but backed out of the deal because of the bad condition of the ones that were set aside for the group buy. I'm not saying this is a bad idea, just that you might need someone like I desribed that knows the "ins and outs", so you don't get burned. FYI there is a dealer in Arkansas that will do the import work etc, but you have to pick it up at the port of delivery.

I'd be seriosly interested if I could see actual pics and specifcations of the vehicles being sold. I wouldnt want to end up with a garbage vehicle. Is there a website or anything to check this out? Know what the import fees are?

Satan, get thee hence. I am too tempted, but I can't swing it right now. I don't know what it is about Uni-mogs, but I have wanted one for years. It must be the portal axles or something. That would be the ultimate yard work truck!

Re: UniMog Group Buy

Thanks for the replys. This would strictly be a DYI operation. I've been looking into the importation of a UniMog for a couple of years now and there ain't that many hurdles to over come. As to where to get them... the UK! Rene (AKA HOOCH) is going to help me hatch this... My plan is to avoid dealers when ever possible. There are UniMogs in the UK that have been amongst the civilian population for several years and there is a good used market. These vehicles are MOT (That's the UK's version of our State Dept. of Transportation) certified and some are even changed from the 24vdc to 12vdc system. It just depends upon what the onwer did after buying them. The good thing is that most of these vehicles are very low milage and in very good shape. So the plan hatching in the back of my mind is to have Rene line up a few vehicles to look ant and I just "zip" over to the UK, take a look at the avaliable units and export back however many are needed after inspecting and taking the best of the lot....no dogs are alowed. This may be a pipe-dream, but it's a good one! From what I've gathered the shipping fees are about $1000. As you all know I'm cheap so I'm trying to avoid dealers and their mark-ups and wheeling-dealing that goes on when ya buy from them. Besides... I want to go to the UK and meet Rene and have my wife dig up a few dead relatives! What an opportunity... Who'd thunk it...Family History and Wheeling all at the same time!

Re: UniMog Group Buy

There are plenty of places that you can buy them in the US. Cold War Remarketing sells them, some junkyards in the Northeast even specialize in them. Do an internet search and see what you find. I'm planning on ptting 'Mog axles under the Wrangler in another year or two Talk about ground clearance!

Make it up as you go.
