Re: Check out this dudes TJ-8 with 40\" treads

Yeah, there was a guy who wheeled with him at Tellico (I believe that it was "Overtech" from JU). Said he did fine the first day, but got really antsy to get off the trails once he saw rocks and real dirt. Once off the trails he rushed for the car-wash, and wouldn't take it out the next day cause he didn't want to get it dirty (rode along in another Jeep while the short-bus was back at the hotel lounging on pavement). Oh, and it still has the stock axles from what I hear.

I'm thinking that "Street-Jeep" might be applicable here.

Re: Check out this dudes TJ-8 with 40\" treads

"Street jeep"??? How so? Was it the 3" body lift and I didn't want too much lift"???? And then had 40's under it or was it all of the care taken on how not to scatch it up during the mods.????? Oh yeah, the next time some guy or any of the readers here on the BBS needs to "order" a new hardtop to cut up give me a call at the shop! He he he

I think it's the 40" tires on stock axles and running gear (steering), and the fact that there is so little room between the tires and body it can't have any flex.

I think that's one of the first times I've seen someone add rear overhang to an off road vehicle.

Re: Check out this dudes TJ-8 with 40\" treads

I think you guys are being too hard on the guy. He freely admits that he is new at offroading, so I can understand his nervousness at taking his "baby" out and banging it all up. He did great work on the body and frame mods, you have to admit. If his d30 fails, and it will, because of the 40's, then he will get his lesson on trail repairs. His setup isn't probably the best for a lot of offroading but he is out there trying and learning and that should be good enough.
