Re: Yeah!!I got a jeep today!!!!

ok with the info i have i would bet with a 4.3L v6 and a th350 you have a np208 x-case. not a bad setup if you use a dodge 208 to make it a fixed yoke output. good find as long as it runs good. is the 4.3 fuel injected? that would be easy to do in the future.

Re: Yeah!!I got a jeep today!!!!

how easy are we talking here?
Whats the cost on changing it to fuel injection?
It seems to run good, only it dies every once in a while due to the carb..or maybee its just bad gas since it has been sitting for a while.
How much would it cost to have a shop change the chain in a 208?
Er could i pick up a 208 instead from a yard for pretty cheap,if so do ya know about how much I would be spending?
Thanks
Joey

Re: Yeah!!I got a jeep today!!!!

Don't play around with parts, go with a new chain in the 208, which is what it sounds like it is for a transfer. It'll probably run you a few hundred ($300-$500) to have a shop put a new chain in it.

As to the engine, forget fuel injection, just get the carb running well and stick with it. The NP208 is OK, certainly up to the V-6 power, but I agree, do the fixed yoke conversion.

The TH350 is a good tranny, one of the stongest, it's hard to kill them. They're also a popular swap due to their short length.

Sounds like a nice jeep if everything was put together well.

Re: Yeah!!I got a jeep today!!!!

jeepn is right about the chain. i would go new. however you might get lucky and find a dodge 208 with a good chain then you can swap the cain and fixed yoke output shaft at the same time. another suguestion...why not try and do the swap yourself? i personally havn'e swapped a x-case chain but i can't see where it would be too awfully difficult either. give it a try. sounds like a good learning experience. if you have questions as the board. someone will know the answer. as for the efi you could probably find a complete throttle body setup (wiring, computer, sensors, fuel pump, etc.) from a j/yard for the 4.3 for $250 or probably even less if you deal right. i don't agree with jeepn fully with the keep the carb idea. yes keep the carb while you get it going and get it running the way you want. after it is and you take care of all the other stuff then do the swap. if you wheel your jeep you will definatly thank yourself. i tried all different carb setups on my jeep before i injected it and it took weeling to a whole different level. yes some carbe will run at angles and some won't. from my experience yes some carbs will but still not near as well as efi. anyway you'll just have to decide what you are going to do with the jeep first. if it is a steet jeep it isn't worth the trouble. stay with the carb.

Re: Yeah!!I got a jeep today!!!!

NP203 ...
pretty strong but Its a full time case with a weak low range I think.

BTW the FSJ JEEP versions of the NP208 have afixed rear yoke.!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can say they are STRONG, easily handle V8 power ( AMC360) and 33 inch tires in a 1/2 ton truck but with an automaitic, I never owned one with a stick....

Re: Yeah!!I got a jeep today!!!!

high5 is right but I would go one step further and get yourself a multiport unit (MORE POWER!WHOOHOOOO), their are a lot of miniblazers and s-10s out there with the multiport, heck while i'm thinking you could swap on a set of vortec heads too

Re: Yeah!!I got a jeep today!!!!

the 203 is a strong case. if it doesn't have it already they mak part time conversion kits for them. i don't know how mmuch they cost but i don't think it's too bad.
