Heater hose size? CJ-7 w/ 258

Hi all. What size are the heater hoses on my '83 CJ-7/258? The heater core seems to be 5/8", as well as the connections on the front and rear of the intake manifold. But the connections on the water pump and thermostat housing are 3/4"?! Are there some wacky molded hoses that I should be buying or do I just get 3/4" hose and crank it down tight on the 5/8" connectors (doesen't seem right)? And just to double check, here are my hose routings...Thanks!

1.) Thermostat housing to front of intake manifold
2.) water pump to top heater core fitting
3.) rear of intake manifold to bottom heater core ftting

I don't believe you want or need 3/4 inch hoses.
I'd go with 5/8" (16mm) all around ...
Put some lithium or silicon grease inside the ends, clamp them down ... not too tight ... and that's it.

The fittings on the water pump/ t-stat housing are 3/4". When I did mine, I used short pieces of 3/4" on the stat housing and pump and 3/4" to 5/8" reducers.
I suspect there is a wacky moulded hose that fits it, but the reducers work just fine and are probably a lot cheaper.

dschwab is aabsolutely right. There are 2 sizes, the factory used molded hoses which are no longer available. Use the 2 sizes with reducers, you are asking for trouble trying to put a 5/8 hose on a 3/4 fitting. I just went thru this on my rebuilt 258 last Dec.

Thanks guys! I should have known there would be reducers out there . I'll pick them up tomorrow along with some 3/4" hose. The 5/8" was a bi%@h to get over the t-stat housing end and that's where I stopped for the night. Thanks again!

Humm. So thats why I had so much trouble getting that 3/4" hose to stop leaking at the heater core.
