Automatic to manual question

I'm pulling a 304 that is mated to an automatic to use with a manual tranny. Any helpful thoughts about the swapping of flexplate to a flywheel. I'm going to use a used flywheel. Any suggestions for proper balancing or can I just bolt it on?

Carey,
What tranny was it mated to? My 304 was mated to a T15 3spd. and was changed to a TH400. The TH400 used a 3/4" adapter between the crank & flexplate, but I think the TFseries bolted direct to the crank. The flywheel that was bolted to mine was direct to the crank.
The only tip I have is To watch your bolt length and don't let them get into the block. They tend to ring off, trash the seal, or cause knocks hitting the webs on the bottom of the block.

Dave, It's mated to a TF727 with a NP229 right now. It's in that Grand Wagoneer I told you about. Previous owner swapped the 360 for a 304. I want to mate it up to my SM465. That's why I want to be sure about what flywheel I'm getting.

I can do some trading and get a Dana 300 T-case but am told no one makes an adapter anymore to the TF727. Advance told me it would bolt up but you had one of two problems either there was no clearance for the shifter or no clearance for the front driveshaft so it requires a longer adapter to clock it correctly. So I guess I will stick with the manual. I'll keep the 727 and play with it in the garage floor once I get the rest of the Jeep back together. Then if I can get the 727/300 setup the way I want it I can swap it in at any time.

I have been told that the flywheels were different weights (NOT balances) for the different blocks. Supposedly due to the differences in internals between the 304/360/401. I can't see this being true as they share most of the same components, just different bores of the same block.
You gonna have that Jeepster ready in time for the Dixie Run? I think the plan is to setup a makeshift AJC tent at some point.

That's what I thought. I came over to the SWB board cause I figured someone here was more familiar with the AMC V8's than on the Jeepster Board. I won't make Dixie Run this year again. My niece has decided to get married that weekend so I have to go the opposite direction. Since she is the only niece I have, and it's close enough to drive, I figure I had better show up to keep peace in the family. Besides after preparing for the Rosser and SFWDA 3rd qtr. meeting I am about ready to stay on the pavement for a few weeks to try to get the other one back together before winter.
