Audiovox Jeep Hood Lock . Ya or nah ??

Just read some back posts on this and was wondering how many of you are using them ? Like em` or hate em` ?
My 79 CJ is about to go on the road after 2 years of HARD WORK and I really want to do the best I can to see it still in the parking lot when I come out of the restaurant/parts store etc...

Thanks Larry . So basically when the hood latch ( from inside the Jeep ) is turned by key to the LOCK position , the motor can`t start . Does the key mechanism on those seem good ? No way of someone jamming a screw driver in there and just twisting ? I kind of like the idea of these and think I will try one . Thanks Lev !

You're correct. The entire assembly is located under the hood, and above the grill crossmember. The cable that goes from the lock assembly to the Key assembly is sheathed in a very hard sprial steel sheath. The key, when turned will ground the relay. The relay, in turn, controls what ever device it's connected to... One could easily use the relay to control a multicipty of devices by controling more relays. I did not install the red LED as it's a power drain... and I don't like power drains when the CJ's not moving. As for the sturdiness of the Key mechanisim... it's housed in a hardened steel case which I've affixed under the dash. I'll modify it soon to affix to "in the dash", further minimizing it's footprint.

The lock uses tubular a key lock. The key is similiar to those found on freezers.

If you did get a screwdriver in the key slot it's going to be a tough job for the average theif to open it. From outside the hood area the lock can't be seen... you simply don't know it's there. For $30, it was a good investment... just keep that cable lubed!

Would you have an operation done by a sanitation worker? Then why would you buy a lock from an electronics company? And the electronics are so bad Kmart won't sale it anymore and even the lowlifes around here wouldn't ripoff some.

That's what, 30mW or so? Leave that puppy on and she'll be completely drained in just 6 years!

Put it this way Dave . It`s probably enough of a deterrent that it would make a thief move on to the next target . And that is good enough .
