258 exhaust manifolds

I've got a 77CJ7 with 258 six. The exhaust manifold is cracked in no less than 3 places. There is an 87 258 manifold in the paper for sale, is it interchangable? I know the 258 changed some in '80, what fits what?

Re: 258 exhaust manifolds

I don't know for sure but I would amagine that yours doesn't have the bung for the O2 sensor but the '87 will. Not a problem, just screw a bolt in the hole. The only other thing might be the tube for the pulse air. If you have either of these, the '87 should fit no problem and if not, it's easy fixes.

'88 Sahara, 4.2 that runs. The rest is getting there!

Re: 258 exhaust manifolds

I'm 90% sure you're stuck with the pre-80 manifolds. The older ones have the flange for the header pipe centered in the manifold, facing straight down, while the newer ones have thye flange more toward the rear of the block, and I think angled slightly toward the rear also.

In addition to the o2 sensor bung, there is the egr pipe that runs back up to the intake manifold on the 80+ models.
