stock shocks with suspension lift

How many inches of lift would it take to require buying new shocks? I know that it is almost always a given that buying a suspension lift means buying new, longer shocks, but I was just wondering if it was absolutely necessary. Would somebody with a mild 1" suspension or shackle lift need new shocks?

1" shackles usually won't require new shocks because you are probably just restoring the ride hight you had before the original springs sagged out. If you put 1" springs (new) on your Jeep, you may need new shocks. Stock shocks usually don't travel enough for the stock suspension .

Re: stock shocks with suspension lift

I suggest you check the full droop and compression of the suspension as it is now and see how close the shocks are to the their limits. Then you should be able to tell if you'll need them. I know you have leaf springs, but on my TJ when I had 2" coil spacers, the new shocks the lift came with were the exact same lengths as the stock ones. Food for thought.

Also, as told to me by the Rancho man...

"You can use our shocks as a limiting strap, but definitely NOT as a bumpstop!"

Re: stock shocks with suspension lift

A 1" suspension lift wouldn't be worth the $$$ even if you found one. A shackle lift will usually give you 1/2 of the height at the axle anyhow. As far as the shock goes anything 2"+ gets new ones.
