Blown 4.0 TJ

Thought you guys would enjoy a couple pics of this blown 4.0 TJ from this morning at the UFWDA. You could hear it coming from 1/2 mile away, unmistakeable whine!

Nice. Any idea of what that cost, and what kind of power gain do you get for that?

Re: Blown 4.0 TJ

What does the rest fo the Jeep look like? What is it set up for? I think the install of a huffer on anything but a very competetive mud bogger or Sand dragster, is a waste of hard earned cash.

uh...does that void the warranty?

Who needs a road...if there's a perfectly good JEEP trail somewhere else!?

Its a 97 TJ stretched 10 inches, competes in ARCA, the owner is Jerry Bruce of Farmington.

Re: Blown 4.0 TJ

If you guys saw my weekend post of Paul C. from CO Spgs. getting jammed in the "Cobra" I'll tell you that Jerry pulled up to see what was going on while the yellow rig finally got unstuck.
So as soon as the Cobra was clear ole' Jerry just climbs right up that sucker!
And yeah, it do whine.
Other than stroking a 4.0, that's the only other bolt-on horsepower upgrade out there! ...

Re: Blown 4.0 TJ

Dang, I wouldnt think that blower HP would be that helpfull in rock crawling. The 4.0 already has pretty good power. But there are a few other mods that can be done to it other than stroking it, such as roller rockers, and headers.
I used to run a Kenne Bell Supercharger on my 460 when I was mud bogg racing it. It didnt really start to build any benneficial HP or torque from the huffer, until about 2000 rpm., and it would lag, pretty baddly when shutting down and gassed hard, when the revs dropped below 2000.
I also used to wheel with an FJ in Reno with a 383 blown/stroked Chevy, and that thing struggled constantly, to maintaine smooth power at low RPMs.
Hmmmm, I guess its all in how well its set up. Live and learn.

Re: Blown 4.0 TJ

It's not just the blower, Jeff.
Jim Peterson here is stretching, coiling and torsion barring those YJ's to get them to do so well ...
