Saginaw (how much steering shaft to cut?)

For those who've retained their stock steering shafts during their saginaw conversion, how much shaft did you cut off above the worm gear?

I'll be machining the remaining shaft, as necessary, to attach the universal yoke that mates to the Flaming River slip shaft. My cheapo micrometer (hardly a micrometer) indicates the shaft is 7/8." AA sells the 7/8" x 3/4" yokes for a whopping $85 smackers (ouch!). So, if anyone has a cheaper source for this yoke, I'd really appreciate it.
