How many have leaks?

I'm feeling pretty bummed right now. I busted my a$$ this past Saturday changing the seals and gaskets in my D300. Torqued everything to spec, filled it up with gear oil, lifted the tranny and X-case back into the Jeep for the second time in 2 months and all looked good. I took a peak under there tonight and there's a puddle of gear oil about the size of a CD sitting on the skid plate.

Dang bernit!!! There's nothing I hate more than leaks. So like I asked in the subject, is there anyone out there living with leaks? If anything, it'll make me feel better knowing I'm not the only one. Looks like I'll be wrenchin' on this thing till hell freezes over.

Re: How many have leaks?

All three of the Jeeps and the Dodge leak some.
The CJ-2A is the worst, but I live with it.
I put some stuff in both the tranny and x-fer case to hepl slow the leaks, and it did slow the leaks, but it did not stop them.
The 2 XJ's and the M-37 drip two or three times, but not much more than that.

Oh, one other BIG leak in the 2A is when it rains.
I will be driving and the water just hits me in the face and on the head!!!
Oh, I guess it would help if I put the windshield up and bought a top foe it huh?

Re: How many have leaks?

My CJ doesn't leak, she just marks her territory.

Everytime I fix one, another pops up. Last weekend it was the seals in the steering box.

Seems like every hour on the trail equates to about three hours of maintenance/repair time in the garage. Keep the faith, and don't give in to the temptation of those new TJ's.

And, has anyone noticed that whenever you pick up a wrench, there is a price to be paid? Sometimes it's blood, sometimes it's money, but there is always a price .

Re: How many have leaks?

I'm fightin' with axle seals right now. They were leaking like crazy when I got it. so I replaced them. 50 miles later, the right one's leaking again. Took the seal out, exchanged it for a new one. Got about 100 miles this time and the darn thing's leaking again. I don't think there's anything wrong with the axle, so I'm starting to think the tube's bent. I really don't even want to think about that ($$$$) so I'm just living with the leak.

Re: How many have leaks?

Ha! I went through a two week period in which my 5 didn't leak at all...I've never been that worried before. Turns out I had run out of oil in my D20.

Just think of the leak as a reminder that it needs to be checked. Besides, you wouldn't have a hard time changing out your oil after you next water crossing!

Re: How many have leaks?

I don't understand, there are three jeeps at my place 2 YJ's and one CJ-7 and the only leaks I've encountered is when it rains.

Re: How many have leaks?

My TF 727 in the CJ leaks non-stop. There's so many little parts under there (bands, pan, swivel arm, kickdown), I can't tell where the leak is from. I've just been living with it.

Who needs a road...if there's a perfectly good JEEP trail somewhere else!?
