transmission problems

i have a TF999 3spd automatic in my 1980 cj-7 with a 304. recently my jeep wont shift out of 1st gear when the tranny isnt warmed up (usually about 2 times around the block.) i thoguht maybe it was low fluid level, but i filled it up and the problem persists. the fluid level is even a little high now, could that possibly cause a problem? i went through some deep water the other night due to flooding in my area, but i dont think that was the problem, since the trouble started the day before. any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Re: transmission problems

There could be a couple of problems:

1. Low fluid pressure when shift points are met.
2. Incorrect band settings or a broken band. 1st and reverse share the same band.
3. Clogged valvebody.

I'm suspecting #3 or #2.

Re: transmission problems

Hey Andy, How is the lift kit going? Have you decided which one your going for, and this is just like a jeep, you want to do one thing and while your at it something else comes up that needs your attention right then and there.
Keep us up too date on what ya find out on the trans and your lift kit. By the way, I still havent decided which trans to put back into mine, last night a friend came over and gave me a np435 and a 208 that needs a little work but that 435 is hugh, its at least twice as tall as the t5, I don't know what all it takes to get that sucker to fit plus I really was wanting an auto. Talk with ya later.
