cv joint in CJ -What should I get a cv shaft from?

Hey all,

I would like to put a cv shaft in the rear of my cj. I have a 84 CJ, SOA, D20 tcase and D44 rear. My current shaft is 21.5 long installed.

I have been told that I should be looking for a cherokee driveshaft, have it cut down and buy the correct yoke for the tcase. I can get the yoke for $60, and have the shaft cut for $40.

Besides a cherokee, any other vehicle driveshafts I can use? I would prefer not to get one custom made and spend $300, I'd like to get a shaft from a yard and get it cut.

Thanks.

You can get the yoke off of an early Bronco D20 case as well as the Jeep Quadratrac t-cases of the 70's.

I got my driveshaft off a '85 Grand Wagoneer and had it shortend to do my rear CV.

Do you know which years I can get a yoke from? And it will bolt right up to a cherokee or waganeer cv? Thanks.

I think the Early Bronco Dana 20's were from '66-'77. That front yoke will fit a Wagoneer/Cherokee CV. They attach by bolts, not yoke straps or u-bolts. The Wagoneer/Cherokee t-cases will be from '72-'79, I know the Quadratrac had the CV front, and I assume the Dana 20's did too. Both yokes will fit.

Call the Bronco Graveyard. http://www.broncograveyard.com. They sell used yokes for $20, but they don't specify front or rear on the web site. You need the front.
