Can you flip over your tie rods with a 3\" lift

83' CJ-5 and I have really crappy ride & steering. I just bought a new AGR box, pump, steering shaft, and some 2.5" lift softride springs. As soon as they parts come in, I can't wait to try out the new springs. Right now I have 2.5 " lift Procomp springs. I have a bit of bump-steer and so I wondered if I could flip my steering linkage on top of the knuckles. Can this be done with a small lift of 2.5 - 3 " ? I plan on removing the sway bar and that looks like it will open up enough room for the steering linkage on top. When I eye-ball it, it looks like the linkage would be exactly parallel if it were on top of the knuckles. Can this be done or would I need to install lower bump stops to prevent the linkage from banging into the frame?

Re: Can you flip over your tie rods with a 3\" lift

I swapped the tie rods onto the top of my knuckles with 3" of lift and it worked out fine. 3" is about right for relocating the tie rods. It does make the tie rod and drag link parrallel. I had Currie make the changes to the knuckles. When you do it, you might want to have new ball joints put in since the knuckles are of the axle housing anyway. If your springs end up sagging, you will stil have bump steer since the drag link will hang lower. Also, you should not have to remove the sway bar, just use longer links. The links from a Wagoneer should be long enough or measure things out and get disconnects that are long enough for the lift and tie rod swap. Also, make sure you have long enough bumpstops or the tie rod could impact the frame under full compression of the suspension.Good luck.
