Tuffy Security Console Question

For those of you with a Tuffy console, I was wondering what type of radio/cd unit you put in the unit. I know some will not work in a vertical position and would like some recommendations.

I'm not looking for a killer, thumping stereo system, but just something that I can hear while on the freeway (which might be asking alot!)

Thanks alot!

Re: Tuffy Security Console Question

I think you will find the Pioneer units to be the best bang for the buck for Jeep use. They're relatively inexpensive and are more rugged and skip resistent than any others I've seen. The one pitfall of the Tuffy box (yes, I have one) is 1. there is darn little airflow for the head unit and 2. the jeep is so noisy you need a fair amount of volume just to hear it. So you need to be a little careful. Good luck.

Re: Tuffy Security Console Question

I bought a Sony eXplod head unit (Ca-650) by the recomendations of this board. Their web site claims a 45 degree install is no problem (the Tuffy puts it at a bit more than that). I haven't finished the Jeep yet so I don't know "personaly" how it will work though. At 52 watts x 4 channels it should make plenty of sound as well!

Re: Tuffy Security Console Question

I wanted to go with the Sony Xplod, but called their tech line and was told it wouldn't work in a vertical position. Would be interested to know if it works properly when you get your jeep running.

Re: Tuffy Security Console Question

I know this is kinda O/T for what your asking but I had the chance the other day to view a Tuffy Stereo console that someone had tried VERY hard to break into and steal the CD player , ( my local Jeep shop had it there on display ) the thing was twisted up really bad with a crow bar or something big but they didnt get the CD player . I now know they aint BSing when they say thier products are good .
