Dual shocks worth it?

I saw a local SOA YJ running around town the other day. He was running dual shocks up front. Do you guys think this would be worth it on my rig with 35" or 36" tires? Or will I just break my damn back from the stiffness?

No, get some rs9000's then you can adjust them stiff or soft. Dual shocks look cool though. On my Suburban I have dual shocks in the front, but the kit says they are valved differently than normal so it's not as rough, but it is-ProComp-

Dual shocks are valved differently then regular shocks, that way its not so stiff. I wouldn't just stick on 2 extra shocks just for looks. I would try a set of rs9000's and if that's not enough then you could get the softer of the dual shocks to add with the rs9000s.

As stated above dual shocks have to be valved differently (softer) to maintain a decent ride. The main advantage is to increase the amount of fluid in the shocks to dissipate heat better. You’ll only need that if you go pretty fast all the time with your Jeep.

You guys can have those overrated rs9000's. I have ridden in jeeps with them and you cant make them soft enough for my back. i would just run a good old hydro shock. Perfect for a jeep.

Can someone please bring me a hammer my 33's just ate my fender again. Damn i need more lift.

With the 9000's on my CJ5 there was a notable difference in how soft they were, between position 3 (which is the same valving as a rs5000) and position 1 which is the lowest. I would run them at 3-4 on the street, dump em down to 1 for crawling around, or strager it front rear for hill climbs.

I was wanting to run dual shocks up front on my CJ5 (with 35s) to slow down the nose dive from the shackle reversal. But I can't find any decent hoops to fit a CJ, or a dual shock set up that lets me use the sway bar.....


.... any thoughts???

The only one I can think of off hand is like the one at Sams offroad. Not sure if they sell the hoop, or just have it on that brown Jeep. The other ones I have seen around here are custom made ones, or kits from other rigs adapted over to fit a Jeep.

Pontiac58, Are you sure your springs aren't a bit stiff? RS9000 set on 1 are really soft. I've tried them with stock, Rancho, Procomp and OME springs and they are just great. Too soft in fact.

just get a set of 4 rancho rs9000's. use 9012's in the front with a set of ford f350 shock towers and build a cantilever setup for the rear. you'll need the long shocks to allow your springs to flex to thier potential. you can get away with a shorter shock on the rear if you canilever them. you will also need some sort of track bar if you go spring over. those wrangler springs are soft and you WILL have a wrap problem if you don't. i would sugguest using a 2.5" lift spring for your set up because you can't run 35's with just a spring over and no lift unless you cut your fenders. you can fit the 35's on the road but start flexing it and it will rubs pretty bad.
