Front U joint

I have a popping soun coming from the front end that jars my steering wheel usualy while or just after I turn. Im asuming this is the front U joint. Am I correct? Is this hard to replace?

Re: Front U joint

We replaced one Sunday, "on the trail" in a buddies CJ7. It took about 45
mins. If you have a CJ you'll need snap ring pliers and a LARGE socket for
the spindle nut. The rest is common hand tools.

What kind of Jeep? Year? Axle? Fill out your profile to help us help you.
It sounds like the axle joint has gone dry and it does need replacing. You'll need the large socket(probably about 1 1/4"), a puller for your hub assembly, and some common hand tools. While you are in there, you might as well replace the bearings in the axle. It will save you a lot of headaches in the future.
AND..... use anti-seize on every NUT and BOLT!!!
Good luck
