D44 Install Update!

I finished the outboard spring mod, now I am adjusting the caster on the Scout, Don't ever pass up a scout D44 because you think it is to much of a pain to adjust the caster, It took me 20Min to adjust this side!

Re: D44 Install Update!

It sounds as if your doing what I want to do. I have a 82 cj7 and want to put a set of dana 44s in it. Don,t know what it takes. I,ve got a set of 44s out of a scout 2. Now I have to figure out what to do about springhangers. Want to know if hangers from a chev truck or some other one will work. Anyone with an idea please reply Thanks Tarbaby Jeep for the street

Re: D44 Install Update!

You would save allot of time if you build your own spring hangers!

Re: D44 Install Update!

When you talk about outrigging your springs what do you mean? Are you talking about making brackets so that the leaves are not under the frame but to the side of it? Does this save you from having to cut off the spring perches and weld on new ones so the Dana44 will meet with the stock location CJ spring? Thanks..

Re: D44 Install Update!

If you go with the scout axles (un-cut) the front pig would be in the way of the springs if you don't go outboard.

Re: D44 Install Update!

Rodney, you and I need to hook up so you can show me how to adjust the caster. I am assuming a little "fine tuning" with an 8 pound sledge is in order?

Outboarding the springs is fairly easy, and I have a writeup of how I did it. The rear is attached.

Re: D44 Install Update!

Yea you sent me your write-up a little while back, You should post it on the "Jeep Tech" page, it really explains allot, Thanks. Maybe Max can bring the Hyd clutch linkage up when I get his rims? Is the set-up in working order? Thanks:

Re: D44 Install Update!

No, the clutch setup has fluid in it, but needs to be rebuilt. Like anything I have, if you can't get it working or it's junk, I'll refund your money. I already have one in the Scrambler that I rebuilt, works fine.

Sorry Rodney, I was posting the writeup for Tarbaby, he said he wasn't sure about that to do for hangers. Your's look nice and stout!

Castor Oil, now that's FUNNY! I think I have some laying around.
