Engine from Tranny Removal

I'm trying to remove a 360 from a TH400. Is there anything I could be missing that wouldn't allow it to seperate? All the bellhousing bolts are out, the starter is off and so is the dust shield. Do I have to remove flywheel and torque converter bolts?

Re: Engine from Tranny Removal

Remove the 4 maybe 5 bolts that hold the torque converter to the flexplate(flywheel)

Re: Engine from Tranny Removal

As long as you are sure that ALL "6" of the transmission bolts are removed along with the dust shield there should be no other obstructions as the converter will seperate and remove while still bolted to the flexplate. If this unit has been sitting a while it could just need some good ole' muscles. Hope this helps.

Well, most of the bellhousing bolts weren't even there!!!!

It pops loose about 3" but then it won't move at all. Just rock and beat it up to move it out I guess. Thanks.

Re: Engine from Tranny Removal

If you pulled the converter bolts it will come off, I don't know about AMCs, but on others the dust shields hang-up if you don't.

There should only be three torque converter bolts.
