Did I break something?

I was helping my neighbor "de-landscape" his yard this morning by ripping out some trees with the ZJ. I had it in 4lo, on the driveway (I know I know). I kept any maneuvering as straight as possible. Nonetheless, there was a lot of banging and popping going on.

After I got the trees out, I put 'er in 2wd and drove around a while (it doesn't ever disengage the axles right away). Should I check the axle u-joints? The diffs are open, so I don't think its anything there. Or are these typical 4wd noises? The only other info I can offer is the front two tires are more worn that the rear by about 3/16". Is that putting undo stress on the t-case and making the chain slip?

Who needs a road...if there's a perfectly good JEEP trail somewhere else!?

Re: Did I break something?

The extremely short distance you had to operate in 4 low shouldn't have had any effect on the t-case, look for another source of the noise.

It is quite possible that, if you were on a hard surface in 4wd...you were just hearing normal suspension and tire banging...I wouldn't worry too much unless you hear it when operating in 4wd under less stressful situations
