Finally got my ft. D60

Well, I'm on my way to real beef now. I picked up my new axle yesterday, It's brand new, originally made for a 2000 Ford F450, man is this piggy heavy. I had plans to haul it around and cut the tubes on my neighbors nice bandsaw, but it's too heavy to do by myself, so I broke-down and torched it apart, thats when I found out my 9" grinder was missing ! F... ! Anyway, I found the grinder, and I'm back on track now... : ) I can't wait.

To add to the fun, I quit smoking last week, and I sure miss my "thinking sticks". : (

I know what you mean about the smoking thing, I quit a while back, but I still miss them, especially when I'm working in the shop and get frustrated about something... And look at the bright side about the heavy axle....it'll help keep the wheel side down

Cool, glad you finally got it. That took a while. Thats going to be a "hoss" when you get it in.
There never seems to be a "right or easy" time to quit smoking. I did for 8 months........and like a dumba$$ I picked them back up. Good luck on them more than the jeep.

Re: Finally got my ft. D60

I just sold a 99 Ford Dana60 front housing. You are right....they are huge! It is much bigger than my other front 60 which is out of a 92 Dodge.

What are your plans for it?

Re: Finally got my ft. D60

It's going under my cj-7.
...I have the right side shortened and the knuckle slipped on, and I have the left knuckle off, but I have to get my hands on a lathe to finish the left side, I'm useing the long side tube from a 10 bolt axle and it's a 1/8" too fat to fit inside of the Ford tubes. I still need to trim the ring gear and the bottom of the pig, and make my mounts for everything.

Re: Finally got my ft. D60

Sounds like alot of work.. It will be bada$$ when you get done though and cost alot less than Currie. How much did that front pig cost anyway and where did you get it? thanks

Re: Finally got my ft. D60

they are in a class all of there own,
i'm building another 44 for my front and i only have to look about 20 feet to the left and there sits a ford 60 front with all new parts and a "Gleason" with 5.13 gears. i'm always thinking damn those axle shafts and u-joint are huge, i've been afflicted with 60 envy for awhile now take some pictures for use........

Re: Finally got my ft. D60

Thanks but, I'm in lansing Mi. , I have a neighbor lined up for tomorrow. : )
Yea it's a ton of work/fun (if you look at it like it's work, this is probably the wrong sport for you), I got it from a friend nearby, he bought about 30 of these badboys for around $1000 ea. , and sells them for 1500 plus any work he does to them, I paid 1250 and I'll need to put a few hundred more in lockout hubs, rotors calipers, and some outer stubshafts if I go to 35 spline all the way.
Curie sells the same axle for between 3-4k I think.
