Where\'s it coming from?

I have an antifreeze leak dripping steadily from the engine/bellhousing juncture of my 92YJ.

1. It only leaks when the vehicle is cold,But STEADILY then
2. No antifreeze in oil..so I don't think head gasket

Think it could be a freeze plug? Anyone else have anything like this one before?

Thanks

Check your heater hoses at the firewall?

Re: Where\'s it coming from?

Usually there are freeze plugs right behind the flywheel. They are a pain in the ass, but only because of their location. You basically have to pull the motor. Remove flywheel, and replace the freeze plugs. The freeze plugs themselves are simple 10 minute job. Getting to them is another story..... let's hope it's you heater hose at the fire wall.......

Good luck

Re: Where\'s it coming from?

If you have to replace it...use brass...yeah they cost a little more, but they also last longer!

Re: Where\'s it coming from?

There is a freeze plug in the back of the head on the 4.0L that can leak and run down the back of the block. I just had to replace this on my wife's 92 XJ. What a pain in the a$$. Had to pull the head to do and then replaced the others as well while I had it down.

Re: Where\'s it coming from?

I have checked th eheater hoses and everything else. I tr appears to be the freeze plug. One poster menyioned it being in the block (makes sense) another in the rear of the head? My factory service manual does not list or cover freeze plugs.

Can anyone clear this up? It sounds too good to be true to just have to pull the head.....
