304 or 360

Well, I have a question. I know all you guys can help me with it. I have a chance to buy a few motors cheap. 3 304's and 1 360 that is complete. I am getting bellhousings and intakes and everything.

My question in, do I use a 304 or 360? or a 304 w/ 360 heads and intake? I don't rockcrawl.. Nowhere to do it in MO. hehe

I currently am running a tired 258 w/ HEI and a 32/36 Weber.
I know I will have to get new motor mounts. I already had a four core radiator put in my jeep by a local shop. He recored mine with a four core for $200.

Can you guys let me know what else I will have to get?

Thanks in advance, Wade

Re: 304 or 360

IMHO I would stick with an unmodified 360. It will have plenty horsepower for your jeep.
I just did the 360 swap myself and I love the power increase.

Re: 304 or 360

curious, what is the hp rating on a late 80's 360?

Thanks,
Ben.
I have one that might be available for my wrangley, I just dont know if I would be better off with a 350 instead?

Re: 304 or 360

360 for sure

its cheaper to rebuild than a 304, if you have to eventually do that, and the power is night and day for the same engine weight, and about the same fuel economy

Re: 304 or 360

I'd go with the 360 there won't be much of a gas mileage differance and there will be some more power there as compared to the 304 if you should want it.

Re: 304 or 360

Thanks guys, you have helped me make up my mind. I will probably go with the 360 unless something catastrophic happens.. like not enough parts.. LOL
thanks guys, Wade

Re: 304 or 360

360 all the way. Haven't had a single person come back and say I'd rather have a 304 instead!
