Do I really need a rear frame crossmember????

I removed the rear frame crossmember on my Scrambler because it was mutilated by a previous owner. I am building a custom rear bumper that will have the rear body mounts built into it. Can anyone one think of a reason that I would need to replace the crossmember? My new bumper will be bolted to the frame rails.

Thanks,

Re: Do I really need a rear frame crossmember????

You should be ok because the new bumper will act like a crossmember, you do need something in there because the springs are connected to the frame at this point and there would be allot of frame flex if there was no crossmember/bumper!
