Need help selecting rims.

Yesterday I convinced the local tire store that 33x12.5 tires would fit on my 79 CJ7. Well, they did fit on the 8" rims with a little bulge but they wouldn't go on the Jeep. The rear tires hit the springs. Now I'm in search of some 15x10 rims but I don't know what backspacking to look for. Anyone have any info on reqired backspacing for the narrow axles on my Jeep to fit the 33x12.5 tires? By the way, I have a 2.5 suspension lift and 1.5 body lift. Thanks guys.

Re: Need help selecting rims.

I have never really taken any time to figure out my backspacing or what I have needed in the past. I found that the easiest way is to call discount tire or tire wholesale or whoever sells those tires and act like you are gonna buy some tires and wheels from them, they will ask you about your jeep and then you ask them what backspacing you should run. They will tell you and your done, its like a free tire help line =).

I don't understand how they are hitting. I used to run the 33x12.5 Swampers on 8" rims with my narrow track axles, no problems. How are they hitting? I know tons of people running that setup as well.

Re: Need help selecting rims.

I thought this was a pretty common set up myself. With my 30x9.5 tires I have about 4" of clearance between the frame and the tire. When they put the 33x12.5s on they were right up against the frame and springs. I'm certain that this is because of my rims.
