I can get a GNB vortex for 80 bucks, and was told it is the same as the Optima red top.
Anybody have any experience with these? I know there is/was a deal between the companies, but want to be sure its still a good battery.

I've seen a couple of different packaging for SpiraCell batteries and they all looked to be the same core. I wouldn't be surprised if in fact they're all the same.

This was hashed out a couple of weeks/months back. Do a search on Optima... H8Monday had some good input on the topic.

'83 CJ-7 nothing original but the tub and axle tubes

I found some info about other batteries and how they are the same or similar. This is a daily driver with no winch or extra lights (yet). So I was planning on getting the Optima red for now, then doing a yellow/red isolated dual setup once I get some of those attached.
I just did not see anything about these particualar ones. It only looks like about a $20 difference, and for the price, I would rather go to the store than order it online.

That's pretty much what I did, but I'm running the NAPA Exide Orbital instead of the Red (I got mine for free). So far it's been a great set-up. The isolator is a good idea for this as well.

So far the yellow-top works very well for the winch, CB, and stereo stuff.

I've got the Vortex and right on the top of the battery it states Optima Spiral Cell technology.

Check out GNB's website. I don't remember what it is but just type it in on a search engine and it should come up. I heard about them after I bought my Optima and looked into them for a second battery. It uses Optima's spiral cell technology with some of their own stuff. I read an article where they claimed they shot a hole in the middle of it and it would still start their truck.
