a straight claw hammer works usually, as does a 3 jaw puller with a slide hammer.

if you have to very carefully chisel a notch in it then collapse it and remove, but I have yet to see one that wouldnt come out with a good pry bar, maybe heat and oil too if its rteally stubborn

have you heated the area around it ? Don't heat the race, just the area that holds the race...A slide hammer is kinda easy to figure out, there should be some kind of hook that grabs the back of the race, and a rod connected to the hook, then there is the sliding weight on the rod. You hook the race and slide the weight along the rod, when the weight hits the stopnut on the end of the rod, it pulls the damn thing out a little. repeat as necessary

Re: [censored] bearing race peice of [censored]!!!!

I think you may be confusing a dent puller with a bearing or race puller. The dent puller has only one cone shaped thing on the end, that a screw and some single atachments fit into. A race puller has 2 or 3 jaws on it, that face inwards or outwards. You put it in the hole and screw the end to expand the jaws. Once it's tight, and I mean tight, you slam the end like on the dent puller and it'll gradually back the race out. I haven't found any other decent way of getting it out, except for removing the carrier and other side, then shoving a long rod down to beat it out from the other side.

seriously, find an estwing framing hammer with STRAIGHT claws. not curved claws, and you can wedge it behind, then tap it with another hammer, and more than likely jerk it out.

just have a file handy to dress any burrs you raise fromn teh hammer head

Uhm.. I know what a DENT PULLER IS.. sorry I tried to use the Slide Hammer for about an hour.. but one side is high enough for two of the latches and one side of the race is to low so whenever I get it tite it comes out.. I guess I'll heatup the axle housing.. then beat it out.?

Re: [censored] bearing race peice of [censored]!!!!

I had the same problem and used 3 diff bearing pullers from AutoZone and I broke every damn one of them. Go get a Crowbar, regular plain jane crwobar. Just be careful not to gouge the tube. It works like a champ I promise.

Ditto on the crowbar! We used one in combination with a BIG screwdriver & a funky looking prybar. Had the inner races out of the amc20 in 5 minutes, tops.
Sounds like you've lost your cool, [censored] never goes right then. Walk away and try again tomorrow.
