6cyl. to an AX-5 ?
A buddy of mine wants to take the 4 banger out of his 95 YJ and put in a 258. Will this bolt up to an AX-5? How well will this trans. hold up to the 258? Also what would a good used AX-15 be worth?
Thanks Edder Do you smell that? |
Re: 6cyl. to an AX-5 ?
nope it won't work, the ax-5 only works with the 4 cly, the AX-15 will work with the 258 or the 4.0L and the ax-5 is a light duty tranny anyway, it wouldn't be worth your time ...

Re: 6cyl. to an AX-5 ?
Isn't the AX-15 a relatively light duty tranny also?

Re: 6cyl. to an AX-5 ?
From what I have read the ax-5 is for sure a light duty trans, and the ax-15 is just a notch above it. The problem is this friend of mine is set on the 258. It does seem like a waste of time, but he just wanted to see if it would work.It doesn't seem like a good idea, but he just wanted to explore the options.
Once again thanks for your input Edder Do you smell that? |
Re: 6cyl. to an AX-5 ?
Actually, it will work, depending on what you want to do with it. In 1989, Chrysler switched from the BA/10 to the
AX-15 in 6 cyl models. During the switch over some 6 cyls. got the AX-5 (mine included). I now have 129,000 miles on it, with 31 inch mud terrains, I would not go with bigger tires than that. I have been doing quite a bit of wheeling with it and have had no problems. JT. |
