Remember that fuse prob? It just got worse!!!!!!

I posted a few days ago about my one fuse blowing. Now the rest seem to be playing monkey see monkey do. My dome fuse, accessory fuse, and my hazard fuse all blew today. I now have no clock, stereo, or lights in the dash and courtesy lights.
I have a shotgun ready to just blow the damn thing away.
Could it be the fuse box that is messed up? I tore the dash apart and found no bare wires so far, nothing in the engine compartment either.
FYI, it rained with the top off a few days ago, but the problem didn't start until 2 days after the rain and I had driven it for those days with no problems.
It only rained for about a half hour and really didn't get the dash wet.
Could this have caused it? It all should have been dry when I first started it up.
PS. anyone want a Jeep?

Check your radio for the short. If its a newer unit they hate the rain. I remeber when I put a new deck in MGB ten years ago, I spent weeks trying to find the short. Turns out I pinched a wire when I pushed it back into the hole. Go figure.....

Trying to find a electrical problem can be, without a doubt, one of the most frustrating, and time consuming processes I can think of. I also know, I'm certainly not an automotive electrical engineer. (But, having a brother and a uncle that is, , I've found its almost impossible to think on their terms, I mean they're both a bit strange, but, I guess if you had to deal with endless miles of wires for a living you would be too)
I wouldnt really begin to try tackle a problem like yours, until I had my trusty wiring diagram (that I've looked at so much I've almost committed it to memory), a voltage test light and an Ohm meter. Then I would identify the components in question, the common circuits they share, along with the wire color codes and begin the process of tracing each of them down, one at a time. Check for continuity where possible (mostly in your fuse pannel or switches) and use the test light to verify juice (current), also check your grounds,,,seems like 7 out of 10 wiring problems are due to a bad ground. I've also found thatsimply doing a "visual" inspection, as a rule, is like looking for a "needle in a haystack", you could be holding the wire in question in your hands and never know it, (trust me on this) However, if you do happen to find the wire(s) causing your headaches, just by "looking"...fix it later, and head out to the nearest casino, your bound to have a good day.
Dont use that shotgun yet,,,,if you take your time, and trace each of the failed components if necessary, you will finally locate and fix your problem. Just remember, engineers do werid routing to what should be a simple circuit, because they know, sooner or later, its going to drive someone crazy.

Good luck

I agree with the above posts, check the radio. is it stock, if not check to see if it is spliced into something for power. Also look at your headlight switch and connector. My connector was bad, from what i remeber alot of the interior power goes thru this switch. Good luck.

The radio was put in about a month and a half ago. I think it uses the power from the dome light source to run. It must also use the ignition somehow since it turns off when there is no key present like it is supposed to.
I'm gonna go over it today and sunday with my father who has all the volt meters and stuff to trace it.
Wish me luck. I'm sure I'll need it.

I found the problem and fixed it in about an hour. Ends up being the wires that go to the dome light on the hard top. I must have piched them and stripped the insulation on them. Explains why the dome, acc(lighting), and others blew. They were all connected in some way to those wires.
BTW. I feel damn lucky to have found an eletrical problem so fast. My father asked for some lottery numbers from me./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif
Thanks for all the help.
