Re: 78 CJ7.. what tranny and xfer case

Are you sure it's a 3 speed Manual? Not a 3 speed Auto? It should be a TH400 bolted to it if it's a CJ7 w/ a 304...Someone want to help me out here....??? I didn't know that any other tranny came with the 304 in the 7...

Hot damn...how about that...I guess the TH400 was the only "Auto" tranny that was bolted to the 304...

Re: 78 CJ7.. what tranny and xfer case

Lets see here... It could have been a three speed automatic.. with select manual switch option from the factory........I'm sure its a freakin manual.. I want to use the xfer case ... how much could I get for a T150?

Probably not a lot maybe $100-$150 if you find someone who busted theirs & needs a replacement. It is a somewhat light 3 speed, common to upgrade from.

I think it is close to 3.0 for 1st gear, so not really low.

Yep, it's a T-150, they were stock behind the 304 in '78, the T-18a was not availble with the 304 in '78.

It should have 3.54 gears stock or 4.09's optional.

Re: 78 CJ7.. what tranny and xfer case

I took a T150 to teh dump last year, starting asking $150, then $100, then $50, then tried to GIVE IT AWAY ,no one wanted it. so I got gas money ( barely) from taking it to the scrap yard

the tranny isnt worth much m, a dana20 is worth $50-$100

so not much drivetrain to part out.
