how to pass emishions?? help please

i have a 1980 cj7 with a 304 v8. and it burns a little oil. you cant see it from the tail pipe while its running. it only gives a puff of smoke when i first start it up but then it clears up. so i changed my oil i put 30 weight oil in it and tryed stps engine smoke stoper addetive. is there anything i can add to the gas to get better emishions? anything at all. you cant see any smoke at all while its running just when it starts i want to make sure i pass the first time.

i don't think you need to worry much about the oil use for smog test. hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide are the criminals they test for i believe. also the visual inspection for altered smog devices. just make sure the timing is close and good plugs. i always set the idle up a hair.

Also make sure you get the engine good and hot before putting it on the sniffer. I used to do this with an Oldsmobile I used to own. If I drove it around for an hour or so before the test, it passed just fine. At the very least, make sure the engine is up to normal operating temperature. If your exhuast looks clear after that, you should be OK.
