I spent the weekend helping a neighbor/friend take apart the rear axle on his Ford truck that he uses for hauling. I don't know what type of truck you would call this, but JEESE! When he dropped the carrier assembly from that thing (all one piece, like a Ford 9"), I about...soiled myself. The ring gear is about two feet across! The carrier is the size of a toaster oven. I got to looking, and stamped on this cast-iron monstrosity was EATON. That's right, I got to play with an Eaton, 2.5 ton rear end this weekend. Dismantling that thing was amazing. It had all the parts of a regular rear end, just super-sized. The backing plate is the size of a stock tire, the wheel cylinders are as big as cantelopes, and the shoes! We had to use a front loader to pick up the carrier assembly to put in the back of his car to bring to get re-geared (from the 5.8# to 4.10). I wanted to put it under my Jeep, but the tires wouldn't touch the ground!
