oil leak question...

OK, heres the deal, my valve cover somehow developed a crack about 12 inches long right about the manifold. Unfortunatly I didnt discover this until about 1 or 2 quarts drained onto the rest of the engine, and all over the new headers. My question is this: I replaced the valve cover, and the car still smokes, but it looks like it is just remaining oil burning off of the headers and engine, how long does it take for the oil to burn away? And another thing, the rear rubber gromit on the valve cover leaks a bit of gray smoke when the the engine is accelerated, how to fix this? Is there supposed to be gray smoke in the valve cover? I never noticed it before.

Thanks! ,
Ben.

Re: oil leak question...

Ben, have the motor cold, then liberally spray it down with full strength
Simple Green. Let it sit about ten minutes and then spray it down with the
garden hose. That should clean off most of the oil.

Re: oil leak question...

oil takes exactly 12 hours per quart

just kidding, depends on how much oil and where it is. Make sure you clean it instead of burning it off
