Tcase leaks after SYE, do it again? :(

Just got done with the SYE install and the tcase is leaking all over. I used the RTV Ultra-Black high-temp sealant (598B) because the original sealant was black so I thought that it should work and it's seeping fluid both at the tcase mating and the bearing retainer mating. I don't suppose it'll fix itself so I get to redo it again. What sealant should I use this time? I have Blue RTV (6B) that worked on diff covers before. Instructions did say to apply a thin film of it but I may have gone too thin. Darn...

I personly use this greay stuff call 2100. I think, if you go to a quad shop ask them they will now the name. Its the best. It really never dries. It is very stingy.

Can someone please bring me a hammer my 33's just ate my fender again. Damn i need more lift.

that's it BLUE RTV 6B! worked just fine for me on my SYE. i don't know what if anything is wrong with the black but i remember reading the blue was recommended and used it. ran a good bead on case and tailhouse. got a good "squeeze bead" on the entire outside of both so i know i didn't short myself. i let dry for close to 24 hrs before filling with fluid. good luck on second try.

Oh well, I guess practice makes perfect... Where do I get another yoke seal star rubber washer? Is it a custom piece or can I get it at some dealership or part store? What tcase is it from?

If you just put it in, you shouldn't have to replace the star washer, should you?

The washer pretty much gets mangled while you torque the nut down. I took the yoke back off and the washer is sheared. Anyway, I called AA and they gave me a jeep part number: 4210973. I'll pick it up tonight and we'll see if it's the right thing. They couldn't tell me what model tcase or vehicle it is supposed to be from.

Re: Tcase leaks after SYE, do it again? :(

hey when i took my SYE apart to make sure i connected the oil pump pick-up tube i then needed another rubber yoke washer. i took the mangled one down to the local 4wd shop where they do misc tranny/trannacase etc work and he brought out a handfull of different sizes and me found a match. i bought two extras for the next go-around.
