I am about to trim my front fenders on my 81 cj7 this weekend. and i am scared. i dont want to hack it all up, but i do need to take a lot off. i am planning to put full width axles under my jeep. 65"-67" in a month and i want to trim the front fenders now. i would like them the be flat fender style and also provide clearence for the full width. does anybody have any tips or pics on how to do this???
thanks keith
you can lead people to the truth, but you cant make them understand it.
i used a jigsaw with a good metal blade.. came out great.. and i didnt even measure it.. /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif i dont mind what it looks like.. since its going to get bashed.. but it was smooth and easy.. trimmed it right above the fender line..
I did the same thing as jeepgod. A jig saw, metal cutting blade and tell yourself to go slow and you'll do fine. I followed the lower edge of the fender lip over the wheel and went straight from there over to the grille. Tape over the line with masking tape and you'll cut down on the amount of chips in the paint. Hold or clamp the loose edge that has been cut so it doesn't shake as much when you finish the cut.
Here is mine, I cut them with a Dremel Tool. At the time thats what I had, it took way too long but came out realy nice. I didnt do this but I did notice that there is a hole on the underside of the fender that the side markers fit perfectly into.
