Buddy buying his 1st Jeep

Bud of mine just blew up the motor in his Montero and is looking at a '93 Cherokee. 4 door, 4wd, 4.0 motor, about 65,000 miles. The owner is asking $6500 which is what NADA shows for retail for this area. Is this a 4.0 HO motor? Any problems/concerns anybody is aware of with this model? Thought I'd ask here before posting to the mid size bbs. Any info is appreciated.

Re: Buddy buying his 1st Jeep

Sorry, Don't know anything about them. We took a Grand out when we were thinking of trading the Trooper, but the Trooper is 10 times the vehicle that Grand ever though of. After nearly getting it stuck and having to call a wrecker, we also decided it didn't ride as well off-road either. Our family has a camp you need to travel MILES down back roads and washouts to get to, it's a "water access only camp", but we know the trails.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Re: Buddy buying his 1st Jeep

i believe a '93 is a HO model 4.0. whenever chrysler took over AMC they changed to the HO within a few years. i think they took them over in 88 or 89. weve had a 87 cherokee since it was new and the only big problem (up until a few months ago) it gave us was an oil leak. but a short while ago we were told we need a new catalitic converter. thats pretty expensive but i work at a car repair shop and were gonna get a hell of a deal on it. (340 bucks as compared to about 800!) but yeah back on topic...cherokees are great great jeeps, theyll last ya a looong while. and thats a good price too. id go for it.

It's not a CAR, it's not a TRUCK...its a JEEP-get it right.
