another paint question

Im painting the jeep and I just finished the first coat of primer. I was told not to put too many coats of base coat on. Why is that? I was just going to use up the gallon of paint with however many coats it took. Is this a bad idea or not really? Thanks for the help.

Re: another paint question

The more you put on there after it's completly covered is jus a waste of time and resources.Plus, it'll make a deeper chip when it gets scratched and dinged.AND, provided it stays on ther for a quite a few years it could start cracking ..Just my experiences...

It's as close to a 1ton as it can get and still be a jeep!!! Gotta love it!!

Yep, too many coats will crack when it flexes. Also, I'm sure you can find other stuff to paint the body color of your Jeep...diff covers, brake drums, lawn mower.
