Shackle reversal

I want to reverse the shackles on my 1980 CJ5. I never buy anything I can fab myself. Looking at the components of the MORE kit I see a tube that seems to require drilling the frame rails on both sides. What is the purpose of this piece and can that purpose be fulfilled in a different way?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Shackle reversal

If it is like the ones that came in my kit, you drill one side larger, slide the tube in there, then have a larger thick washer for that side to help the frame from crushing in when the bolt is tightend. Or you can slide it in there and weld it in place.
Or, it is the one for the top bolt to go thru the frame for the shackle. The have both in some of the kits depending on application.

Re: Shackle reversal

I think the tube he's talking about is for added support to the spring holder brackets..

It's as close to a 1ton as it can get and still be a jeep!!! Gotta love it!!
