Can The EECU be eliminated from the wiring system of an 83 CJ7?.
I am rewiring my whole Jeep and this thing is a pain in my #%&$@.
I looked in the haynes manual and they don't even show it.
Chilton shows it but It is completely diferent than what I seem to have.
How would I know if I have the California Emissions set up in my vehicle?

You can eliminate it by wiring the distributor directly to the ignition module, eliminating the timing controls from the computer. The wiring can be disconnected from the carb, it will still run, but the mixture won't be correct. Get an earlier style, non computerized carb. Be sure you check your state laws on disconnecting smog equiptment, most states won't allow it! You would probably fail your states' smog check. Hope this helps, good luck!

When the Previous Owner of my '83 rebuilt the engine, he just loped off all of the wires right where they leave the firewall. He did change the carb though, and he removed all of the smog crap. It runs better and cleaner now with a Weber than it did with all of the emissions crap.
